LE MÉDECIN MALGRÉ LUI - Edited by Robert Orledge -
The prominent Satie researcher Robert Orledge, professor in the Department of Music in Liverpool, recently sent me his edition of the full orchestral score of Satie's additional music for Gounod's opera Le médecin malgré lui. This is Satie's last unpublished orchestral score.
Commissioned by Diaghilev for his 1924 production of Gounod's opéra-comique, Le Médecin malgré lui, the score is not only Satie's only settings of Molière texts, but also his only extended use of
functional nineteenth-century chromatic harmony. This makes the present score unique in his output: for once there is no iconoclasm or irony whatsoever.

This spacious first edition has been painstakingly transcribed and edited to produce a score which is not only a wonderful collectors' item, but also ideal as a reference volume and for use in performance. It is printed on Scotia Weave paper in a limited edition of 58 copies. When I write this there are only a few copies left which can be bought directly from Robert Orledge for the production cost of £60 GBP / $90 USD / 95 EUR. This is a one-time opportunity only as there will be no more copies printed of this edition.
